Commissioner warns public about LPG gas tank testing
Fair Trading Commissioner Lyn Baker issued a further warning to members of the public that the Office of Fair Trading had serious concerns about LPG gas tanks fitted to their vehicles and bearing the Test Station numbers 360 or 360 A, B or C.
Ms Baker said she had issued a warning to the public last month about below standard trade repair work undertaken by a Mr Warren Abbott on LPG tanks installed in some motor vehicles and the use by Mr Abbott of these Test Station numbers.
"Fair Trading had found Mr Abbott was not a licensed motor vehicle repairer and that the Test Station number used by him was cancelled by SAI Global," she said.
"The Office of Fair Trading has now received advice that a Mr Rob Clarke, a business associate of Mr Abbott, has also used the same Test Station numbers.
"While we have received no complaints in relation to Mr Clarke’s work, I reiterate my warning to members of the public that if their LPG gas tank bears these Test Station numbers, they should obtain a re-inspection of the vehicle from any RTA- authorised LPG Inspection Station or a licensed LPG Fitting Station."
Ms Baker said any member of the public who had dealt with Mr Rob Clarke personally should contact a special hotline, provided via the NSW Government Contact Centre Hot Line on 1300 729 396.
"People who have an LPG gas tank fitted to their vehicle bearing the Test Station number 360 or 360 A, B or C should go back to the RTA-authorised LPG Inspection Station or licensed LPG Fitting Station that conducted their last tank re-inspection and request a further inspection of the tank."
