Building business information expos

NSW CrestThe Office of Fair Trading is aware of the difficulties facing builders, contractors and consumers in these challenging economic times and has devised a range of strategies to assist those involved in the residential building industry in NSW.

Confidential advice

A number of free Building Business Information Expos for builders and tradespeople have been organised by Fair Trading, where industry experts will provide confidential advice and information on many of the business management issues facing builders today.

Fair Trading staff will be present to provide advice on dispute resolution, compliance, home warranty insurance and home building licensing.

Many government agencies that interact with the building and construction industry will also be present, including the Department of Planning, the Building Professionals Board, WorkCover NSW, the Consumer Trader and Tenancy Tribunal, the Long Service Payments Corporation, NSW Procurement (Security of Payments), and the Office of Industrial Relations. The Master Builders Association and Housing Industry Association will also be represented at the expos.

Business recovery experts will also be available to provide one-on-one advice to licensed contractors on how to improve their business or on insolvency issues if required.

Expo format

Each Building Business Information Expo will open at 5pm and close at 8pm. The expo is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to speak on an individual basis with experts about their building business circumstances.

Refreshments will be available for the duration of the expo should it be necessary to wait while the experts are speaking with other participants.
