Consumer Protection Commissioner to visit Esperance
Western Australia’s Consumer Protection Commissioner Anne Driscoll will visit Esperance next week to meet with local consumers and traders.
The Commissioner will be in Esperance on Wednesday and Thursday (13-14 May). It will be her first official visit to the region since being appointed Consumer Protection Commissioner last year.
“I am committed to developing a stronger presence in regional Western Australia to ensure traders and consumers have good access to services and information from Consumer Protection,” the Commissioner said.
During her visit, Ms Driscoll will meet local stakeholders and traders.
The Commissioner has also organised for the Goldfields Esperance Senior Regional Officer Ann-Marie Algefski and other Consumer Protection staff to visit Esperance next week for educational and compliance activities, including inspections, promotional visits to shopping centres, presentations to local groups and information sessions.
“Visits to the regions help Consumer Protection to identify emerging trends and issues, and to promote a fair and competitive trading environment," Ms Driscoll said.
“It is also important to ensure consumers and traders throughout Western Australia are easily able to access advice and information,” Ms Driscoll said.
In Esperance, Consumer Protection staff will focus on current issues affecting consumers and business including scams, retail and consumer transactions, purchase and repair of motor vehicle issues and tenancy queries.
Staff will be available during the following times to answer questions and provide information to members of the public and local traders:
- Wednesday 13 May at the Esperance Public Library from 11am – 12pm;
- Thursday 14 May at the Esperance Shopping Centre (between Woolworths & Target) from 11am – 1pm and from 5pm – 7pm; and
- Thursday 14 May - A free community information session for the public at St Johns Ambulance (54 – 56 Windich St) from 2pm – 3:30pm
