Work Safe Victoria, Victorian WorkCover AuthorityWorkSafe Victoria’s annual Work Safe Week is back with another huge program of seminars and events aimed at helping Victorian businesses get up-to-date with the latest information on workplace health and safety.
Running from 26-30 October, Work Safe Week encourages people to ‘Learn the latest and stay up to date’ by attending one or more of the 100 free and practical seminars and events being run across Victoria.
The new Melbourne Convention Centre is hosting nearly 60 Work Safe Week activities, with the remainder being run across Melbourne suburbs and regional Victoria.
The week’s calendar covers a range of safety issues, industries, level of knowledge and business size.
Topics such as manual handling, health and wellbeing, new national OHS laws, farm safety, work related stress, bullying, helping injured people return to work as well as general OHS topics relevant to all employers, will be covered in a jam-packed program of conferences, educational seminars, panel discussions, interactive workshops, breakfasts and BBQ’s.

WorkSafe’s Executive Director, Health and Safety, John Merritt, said Work Safe Week was designed to give people practical skills and knowledge to take back to their workplaces.
“It’s a fast, comprehensive and cost-effective way for people to update their skills.
“Every week should be treated as Work Safe Week, but these seminars and events give people the opportunity to find out what more they can do to help keep their workplaces safe.”
Mr Merritt said that after the success of last year’s event, which had a record number of more than 14,000 registrations, a big turnout to the seminars and events was expected this year.
“2008 was a huge year for Work Safe Week. It’s impressive to see the level of commitment that many Victorian’s are making to improve workplace safety. What was particularly pleasing was that most people who attended Work Safe Week events last year returned to their workplace and made changes.”
Registrations for Work Safe Week 2009 are now open and Mr Merritt encouraged anyone interested in attending this year to register online at worksafe.vic.gov.au/worksafeweek.
